The event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in the Student Center Cafeteria at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, 5600 Oakland Avenue, St. Louis. It is being sponsored by the STLCC-Global Education Committee to give needs-based students the opportunity to study abroad by providing scholarships. "All proceeds will go directly towards specialized scholarship accounts designated to assist exemplary, financially-strapped students fulfill their dreams of studying abroad," said Daniel Yezbick, Global Education Coordinator and professor of English. "Many of our best students come from compromised financial circumstances, and without these scholarships, they would be not be able to experience the life-changing revelations that come from exposure to other countries, cultures and languages." My husband, Vincent, and I created the Fund after our son VJ passed away of a heart condition complication at three. We are dedicated to raising funds to provide needed resources for families, patients and nurses of St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Ambrose Church & School and Temple Israel Early Childhood. Another goal is to supply the Rockwood Early Childhood Center, where VJ attended, with at least one iPad in each classroom and for therapy room. The Fund’s long-term plan is to assist other schools suffering from budget cuts by purchasing iPads to enhance learning for young children.
